Denitrification

An important part of the nitrogen cycle is denitrification. In this process, the inorganic nitrogen is converted back to atmospheric nitrogen by microorganisms in a number of steps.

 

Explanation for children:

In the denitrification process the nitrate (circular) is converted back to atmospheric nitrogen (rectangular). This is done by special microorganisms with their own enzymes.
