Ciliates

A representative of the protists are for example the ciliates. They are called ciliates because they have cilia. These are hair-like structures, which they use to move themselves around. They usually live in sea or fresh water, where they can move very well.

Explanation for children:

A representative of the protists are the ciliates. They are called like that because they have cilia. Cilia work like little feet, and the ciliate has many of them, almost like a centipede. With their cilia they can pedal around and move around. These feet are especially useful in the water, where they can move with little effort.
